A passenger flight from Turkey en path to Manchester was diverted to Stansted Airport on Wednesday night, escorted by two RAF Hurricane fighter jets because of a “potential safety risk”.
Jet2 flight LS922 departed Dalaman, Turkey, and was because of arrive at Manchester Airport at 9.40pm, earlier than it was diverted to Stansted.
Flight monitoring web sites confirmed two fighter jets had escorted the airplane till it landed on the airport.
An RAF spokesman stated: “The RAF can affirm Fast Response Alert Hurricane plane have been launched this night from RAF Coningsby to intercept a civilian plane that was inflicting concern.
“The plane was safely escorted to Stansted Airport.”
